Bangalore

BLR Bio

Owned by business tycoon Dr Vijay Mallya, the Bangalore has been one of the strongest teams in the IPL. The side has a great batting line-up consisting of hard hitters like Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli. The experience of Zaheer Khan in the bowling has been very crucial for the team. Daniel Vettori’s presence helps the side as far as spin bowling is concerned.

In its red and golden yellow team colours, Bangalore had its moments of glory when they ended up as the finalists in the second edition, losing the title to eventual winners Hyderabad. After a decent performance in the third season, the team rose to prominence in the fourth, thanks to the big West Indian, Chris Gayle; who quickly turned the tides for his team despite a late entry into the competition. He was not only the Orange cap holder, but was also adjudged “Player of the Tournament” for his all-round performance. The team lost to Chennai in the 2011 final, but qualified to play in the third edition of the Champions League T20, only to end up losing to Mumbai in the finale.

The Challengers added two new players to the squad in 2012, India's R Vinay Kumar and Sri Lankan spin legend Muttiah Muralidaran ahead of the fifth season. Despite a star-studded line up and a fruitful campaign until the playoff stages, the team failed to make the final cut for the top four and eventually got kicked out of the tournament.
