Profile

Grant Elliott moved to New Zealand from his native, South Africa way back in 2001 to pursue his cricketing dreams. From being regarded as a ‘bits and pieces’ player, Elliott has transformed himself into an all-rounder who can provide pivotal contributions with both bat and ball.

A fine 2006-07 season was followed by an equally stellar 2007-08 season where he was in stunning form with both his batting and bowling; averaging close to 55 and also picking up a combined 24 wickets from the State Shield and State Championship tournaments. This form saw him make it to New Zealand’s Test squad in early 2008 against England. He went on to make his debut in the third Test at Napier after Jacob Oram pulled out with an injury and later made his ODI debut against the same opposition. A magnificent 115 against the Australians registered his maiden ODI century and he also led the Black Caps to a victory in the 2009 Champions Trophy semi-final against Pakistan.

A technically sound batsman, Elliot is a genuine swing bowler capable of generating decent pace with a short run-up.
