Aged nine, he was already a member of Hampshire's youth side and in the season that followed, Danny Briggs became a regular feature of the first team.

The slow left-arm orthodox spinner impressed on England's U19 tour of Bangladesh in 2009, where he bagged eight wickets and registered himself as his side's leading wicket-taker. The next year, he played a significant role in Hampshire's dramatic victory over Kent, taking 4 for 93. The Canterbury ground proved to be lucky for him as Briggs recorded marvelous Twenty20 figures of 3 for 5 in four overs against the same opposition, Kent. In the 2010 domestic T20 competition, he collected a record 31 wickets as Hampshire went on to win the Trophy and Briggs received the Man of the Match award for his performance in the semi-final.

Briggs continued to make an impact on the domestic front with 33 wickets at an astonishing average of 18.87 in their four-day competition and that earned him a place in the England Lions squad for its winter tour in the Caribbean. Having modelled his bowling style on the lines of Daniel Vettori, Briggs became a regular in all formats of Hampshire by 2011. Later in the year, he received a surprise call-up to the national side for their Twenty20 series against the West Indies. Though, he made his debut in an ODI against Pakistan in early 2012. Briggs was then named in England’s T20I squad for the World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka later that year.
