Profile

Fast Facts

Shiv Sunder Das is a right-handed opening batsman. He became the second player from Orissa to play cricket for India.

Touted as India's relief to troubles in the opening department, Das made his Test debut against Bangladesh in 2000. He looked solid in defense and showed nimble footwork facing swing. He made two centuries in his brief spell in the Indian team. Both came against Zimbabwe, his highest being 110. He took up first-class cricket during his exile from international cricket. In a first-class match against Essex, he played a magnificent knock of 250. But his attempt to find his place back in the opening team went in vain.

In 2006-07, season Das received a cash prize of Rs 30,000 from the Orissa Cricket Association for scoring a triple century against Jammu and Kashmir. Das hit a poor run of form in 2010-11 and scored just five runs in five innings during that season's Ranji Trophy. As a result, he was not only stripped of his captaincy but was also dropped from the team. Das remained India's front-line opener for quite some time but his inability to convert good starts to big scores saw him being axed.
