Anwar Ali made the headlines when he dismantled India U-19's batting line up that boasted of names like Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja, via a splendid spell of 5/35 that helped Pakistan U-19 register a victory against their arch-rivals. Aaqib Javed spotted Ali when he was training at the National Cricket Academy where he arrived with rugged shoes. With an unbeaten century in first class cricket, Ali established himself as a bowling all-rounder who could hit the ball a long way, in the lower order.

Idealizing Wasim Akram like most left arm quicks in the world these days, Ali has the ability to swing both the new as well as the old ball. He represented Pakistan for the first time against Zimbabwe in a T20I in 2008 but never made it as a regular having played just 3 T20Is over five years and that too against Zimbabwe alone.

Ali was selected for Pakistan's limited overs tour to South Africa in 2013 and he won the man of the match award on debut for his all-round exploits of 43* with the bat first and then for the two wickets he picked in his six overs which helped Pakistan beat the Proteas.
