Pools Are Passé; 10 Outdoor Spots For A Swim
Eight natural swim spots around the world, plus two from India.
Forget swimming pools. Nothing quite compares to swimming in the open, whether it’s a quiet sunset swim in the sea or in a lagoon with fish and turtles. Here are eight sweet swim spots around the world plus two in our very own country. Talk about #IndianSecrets!
A word of caution: exciting as it may be, swimming in untested, unsupervised waters is always risky. Try this only if you are an expert swimmer and even then, do not venture too far out from the shore. Do enquire with the locals before entering the water and ensure there are people around, in case you need help.
Great Blue Hole, Belize - A part of the Lighthouse Reef System, this huge limestone sinkhole is a 412ft-deep perfect circle.
Boulder’s Beach, South Africa - This is your chance to get up close and personal with penguins.
Ik Kil Cenote, Mexico - Known as the sacred blue cenote, or sinkhole, Ik Kil is a 130ft-deep cavern filled with crystal blue water.
Devil’s Pool, Victoria Falls, Zambia - This spot takes ‘living on the edge’ to another level.
Sunset Point, Diu, Gujarat, India - A small little beach with a lagoon that is sheltered from the sea by a sea of rocks, Sunset Point is just a short walk away from Diu town.
Pamukkale, Turkey - A geological wonder, its name means ‘cotton castle’ in Turkish.
Knoydart Peninsula, Scotland - A remote spot, this peninsula has a rugged and untouched beauty.
Dead Sea, Israel and Jordan - The Dead Sea is actually a lake and also happens to be the lowest point on earth.
Jellyfish Lake, Palau - As it turns out, not all jellyfish sting. The ones in Jellyfish Lake in Palau, Malaysia, don’t, so you can swim with them if you like.
Kutralam Falls, Tamil Nadu, India - These falls are known as the spa of south India, because the water travels through lush forests and supposedly imbibes herbal healing properties along the way.
