2006: Ponting Punishes Proteas
The third and final Test of the 2005-06 series between Australia and South Africa at SCG from 2-6 January 2006 was Ricky Ponting's 100th Test, and the now retired former Australian captain celebrated this landmark in style. With his knocks of 120 and 159-ball 143 in that match, Ponting became the first man to score centuries in both innings of his 100th Test. During his 120 in the first innings, Ponting passed 8000 Test runs; and his brutal century in the second innings ensured Australia easily chased down the fourth innings target of 287 from 76 overs on the final day with almost 16 overs to spare.
