More than 110 feared dead in MP stampede
More than 110 people died and over a 100 were injured in a stampede during the Navratri festival near a temple in Madhya Pradesh's Datia district. The stampede was caused by a group of people who, in order to jump the long queue, spread the rumour that the bridge on the river they were traversing over was on the verge of the collapse. Almost 5 lakh devotees had assembled for the Durga Puja festivities at the temple, situated 60 km from Datia. Over 25, 000 people were on the bridge when the stampede occurred.
