[FLASHBACK] Historic moment for Indian cricket
August 24, 1971 is a special and memorable date for Indian cricket because on that day not only did India win its first Test match in England; but also recorded its first series win in that country.
Despite conceding a lead of 71 runs in the first innings, India came back strongly to bundle England out for 101. BS Chandrasekhar with 6 for 38 was the wrecker-in-chief in England's second innings. His sensational spell meant the Ajit Wadekar-led team needed 173 to win the Test.
India had a day and a half to chase down the target, and, despite some scares crossed the finish line to set off euphoric celebrations.
This also ended England's run of 26 Test matches without defeat. [TAG: CYCSPL]
