Yeddyurappa hopeful of BJP leaders convincing 'upset' Advani

Bangalore, June 10 (ANI): Terming Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran Lal Krishna Advani's decision to quit from all key post in the party as a very 'unfortunate' political development, former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Monday expressed hope that saffron brigade leaders would convince the stalwart to withdraw his resignation.

Yeddyurappa said he is surprised as to why Advani has taken such a hasty decision.

" I think all India leaders (should) go and convince him. A man such a senior leader, a stalwart, should not have taken such a decision. And I have got hundred percent hopes that the BJP leaders will convince him," he added.

Advani, a founder member of the BJP and considered the party patriarch after Atal Bihari Vajpayee, resigned from all main fora of the party-Parliamentary Board, National Executive and Election Committee.

In a letter written and sent to BJP President Rajnath Singh, Advani said he had worked for the most part of his life for the Jan Sangh and the Bharatiya Janata Party, and now, he was finding it difficult to reconcile with the recent policies and actions of the party, besides the direction in which the BJP was heading.

Advani's sudden announcement to resign from key BJP posts, came a day after the party leadership appointed Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the chairman of its national election committee, much against the former's wishes.

The BJP President has, however, refused to accept Advani's resignation.

"I have not accepted Shri Advaniji's resignation," he tweeted.

Senior BJP leaders, Venkaiah Naidu and Ananth Kumar, perceived to be loyal to Advani visited him in New Delhi this afternoon shortly after he sent a strongly-worded letter to Rajnath Singh.

In an apparent warning about what his next steps could be, Advani earlier on Sunday made a reference to a wounded 'Bhishma Pitamah' lying on a bed of arrows in a scene in Mahabharata.

The party stalwart, however, made no mention of the Gujarat chief Minister in his blog.

The reference to Mahabharata epic, which is often interpreted metaphorically, was made by Advani in his blog on a day when he was over-ruled and Modi was anointed as chief of the BJP's election campaign committee. (ANI)
