Wine shop salesman shot dead

Patna, Feb. 2: Criminals gunned down a salesman of a liquor shop near Rupaulia Chowk under Karza police station in Muzaffarpur, around 60km north of Patna, today.

The incident occurred around 3 pm when the victim, Ravindra Kumar Rai, was in the liquor shop. Around eight persons riding three motorcycles raided the shop and fired indiscriminately, killing Rai on the spot.

Police said the assailants pumped in at least six bullets into Rai's body and fled the spot. The deceased was a resident of Bangari village under Kanti police station in Muzaffarpur district. Businessmen and residents of the area staged a blockade on Muzaffarpur-Devaria road for around two hours, demanding arrest of the assailants.

The demonstrators also pelted stones at the police patrol car and damaged its wind- screens. Later, deputy superintendent of police (west) Anoj Kumar reached Rupaulia Chowk with forces and pacified the demonstrators.
