London, January 21 (ANI): A spontaneous cuddle, not diamond, is the best way to make the lady in your life smile, researchers say.
When 2,000 women were quizzed, they said getting a hug from their partner was the number one thing that made them feel good.
They also got a warm glow from wearing comfortable underwear and sexy lingerie.
Someone remarking that they had lost weight put a spring in their step, as did bagging a bargain.
Sometimes, women get the biggest buzz from doing something for others. A majority said they gleaned more pleasure from giving presents than receiving them.
This attribute was particularly marked in those with children. Mothers said that hearing their children described as clever or well-behaved made them feel fantastic.
In fact, praise for sons and daughters at school, or on the playing field, makes many women happier than praise for their own work. Mothers also love it when they get a proper hug from their children at the end of a stressful day.
"January gives a great opportunity to take stock and decide what really makes you feel good. Our research has shown that spending time with friends and family, as well as quality time to dedicate to hobbies, whether it be reading, playing sport or hitting the shops, make most women happy and there's no better time to start as you mean to go on," the Daily Express quoted a spokeswoman for supermarket chain Sainsbury's, which commissioned the poll, as saying.
More women said they preferred a bubble bath to a day at a spa and even a sing-along to the car radio can be a great mood booster.
Looking good was a key factor for many women, with compliments on style and being asked where they bought an item of clothing rating high on their "feel good" list.
Getting ready for a night out, having a manicure and fitting into an outfit they thought was too small for them were all things that brighten up their day. Buying a new perfume or showing off a new handbag were also popular. (ANI)
