Star all-rounder Yuvraj Singh struck his fastest-ever IPL half-century on Wednesday in the opening match of IPL 2017. Playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, the left-hander blasted 50 off just 23 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
This was his 11th fifty overall in the Indian Premier League.
Yuvraj finally fell to Tymal Mills for 62 (27b, 7×4, 3×6) as Hyderabad posted a gargantuan 207 for 4 after being sent in to bat by Bangalore’ stand-in skipper Shane Watson.
After Hyderabad completed a convincing 35-run win in the opener, Yuvraj was all smiles as he accepted the Man of the Match award: “When you make a comeback and play well, you gain confidence. You don’t have to worry that you have to make a comeback. I’m batting more hours, working on the short ball, the slower ball, hitting in the V. Was a bit lucky today, but have been playing the short ball really well.”
In earlier editions, Yuvraj played for Kings XI Punjab and Pune Warriors India, before he was picked by RCB in the 2014 for a whopping Rs 14 crore. He emerged as the highest paid player in the auction.
The all-rounder broke that record at the 2015 Player Auction, when he was snapped up by Delhi Daredevils for Rs 16 crore.
