Warrant out on Anant

Patna, Feb. 14: Barely a couple of days after he had to bite the dust for allegedly turning an open space into a makeshift parking zone in front of his hotel, the JD(U) MLA, Anant Kumar Singh, now faces a non-bailable arrest warrant for assaulting a private news channel journalist.

Judicial magistrate Ghanshyam Singh today ordered the issuance of the warrant against the MLA from Mokama and five others while hearing a case lodged with the Secretariat police station.

The case was lodged by Prakash Singh, the reporter, after he was allegedly beaten up by the ruling party legislator at his official residence in Patna on November 1, 2007.

The MLA was sent to the Beur Central Jail and on November 7, 2007, he was released on bail.

The police later submitted a chargesheet against Singh, his bodyguard Bipin Kumar Singh, domestic help Amit Kumar and Sanjay Kumar on December 17, 2007. Singh's counsel Navin Kumar said the MLA could not appear before the court as he was engaged in an "urgent public meeting".
