New Delhi, Jan. 16: Videocon Telecom will launch next generation 4G services in July using spectrum in the 1800 megahertz (MHz) that it won in the November auctions.
While the 1800 MHz band is used to provide voice services, radio waves sold by the telecom department last year are "liberalised" and allow the operator to offer any service ' 2G, 3G or 4G.
Videocon would be competing with Reliance Infotel, Bharti Airtel, Tikona Digital and Aircel in providing high-speed data services. 4G allows operators to introduce services such as HD (high definition) video blogging, HD video on demand and online gaming as download speeds are 10 times faster than 3G technology.
While Bharti Airtel launched 4G services last year, Tikona Digital, Aircel and Infotel will premier in the second half of this year.
"Following a successful spectrum allocation, we seek to provide subscribers with enhanced 4G network across the newly won circles in the second half of 2013 which will enable deliverance of best services and great value-for-money products to consumers," said Arvind Bali, director and CEO, Videocon Mobile Services.
