Ranchi University is gearing up to host its 27th convocation on February 2 in the presence of Union HRD minister M.M. Pallam Raju as the chief guest. Governor Syed Ahmed will be also present.
The varsity authorities held a meeting on Friday to discuss details about the big day. "We assigned duties to the officials, who have been told to co-ordinate among themselves to ensure that there is no glitch during the ceremony," said registrar of Ranchi University A.K. Choudhary.
Choudhary also met state HRD minister Baidyanath Ram on Friday and briefed him about the preparations. "Apart from the governor who also happens to be chancellor of universities of Jharkhand, the chief minister as well as state HRD minister will grace the occasion. We are also going to invite a few senior state officials, particularly those from the HRD department," the registrar said.
As many as 3,800 students, who completed graduation and postgraduation in 2011, will be awarded certificates by Raju on February 2. In all, 26 gold medals will be given away to toppers of different departments. Vice chancellor L.N. Bhagat has finished signing the certificates.
The function will be held at the convocation hall that has come up near social science block of the varsity.
The varsity had been trying to rope in Union HRD minister for the occasion and officials had contacted former occupant Kapil Sibal. However, after the Union cabinet reshuffle, the request went to Raju, who agreed to be the chief said, officials said.
The 25th convocation was attended by then President Pratibha Patil and the 26th, held in November 2011, by Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar.
