US Olympic star Shannon Miller to welcome 'miracle' second baby after cancer scare

Washington, Jan.15 (ANI): US Olympic gymnast Shannon Miller is expecting a second child, two years after she was told she cannot conceive due to a rare form of ovarian cancer.

Miller, who is the most decorated gymnast in U.S. history, is due this summer and calls her pregnancy as a miracle, as announced in her website, the Daily Mail reports.

The Olympic champion has been trying for a second child in 2010, but was in for a rude shock when doctors discovered a germ cell malignancy, a form of ovarian cancer.

After the infected ovary was removed in January 2011, Miller had nine weeks of chemotherapy, and she claimed that she is now cancer-free.

After her diagnosis in 2011, Miller said that her life, which was running smoothly with the launch of her company, Shannon Miller Lifestyle, turned upside down after she was diagnosed with cancer.

Germ cell malignancies, which generally occur in teenagers and women under 30, are not the same as ovarian cancer.

Miller, who has a three-year-old son, Rocco with husband John Falconetti, is a two-time world all-around champion, with seven Olympic medals and nine at the world championships. (ANI)
