New York, Jan 22 (ANI): A man from California is trying to break the Guinness World Record for the most hugs given by a single person in a 24-hour period.
David Parsons is on a quest to shatter a world record, by one embrace at a time, the New York Daily reported.
The 25-year-old set out on the affectionate adventure after losing a close friend to cancer two years ago.
"The last time I hugged Sharon, I had no idea it was going to be the last time I saw her," he explained.
He spent nearly all of Jan. 21 trying to break the Guinness World Record for the most hugs given in a 24-hour period by one person.
The 25-year-old said that there is huge power in a hug and it is very important to be able to give someone a release for even a second.
Parsons' mission kicked off at 11 p.m. on Jan. 20 at ESPN Zone L.A. Live and will end at 10:59 on Jan. 21. He had hugged just over 1,000 people at the halfway mark.
Jonathan Sexton holds the current world record with 8,709 hugs, which he had set on June 11, 2010.
Parsons told the News from ESPN Zone that he was lagging behind a bit but asserted his mission is designed to bring awareness to Grants Wishes.
He hopes to raise at least 100,000 dollars for the non-profit, which helps kids who have been diagnosed with a cancer relapse.
Parsons said he'll continue his record-breaking journey even if he doesn't reach his goal. (ANI)
