US entrepreneur unveils 'Hyperloop' 'space travel on Earth' concept for transportation

London, Aug. 13 (ANI): A US entrepreneur has reportedly unveiled his idea of 'space travel on Earth' with the 'Hyperloop' transport system which will take passengers across California, faster than bullet trains and at a relatively lower cost.

According to the BBC, Elon Musk's concept is aimed at using magnets and fans to shoot capsules floating on a cushion of air through a long tube at a speed of 800mph.

Musk aims to have this concept as a better alternative to flying or driving and a fifth mode of transportation after planes, trains and automobiles and boats.

The SpaceX, Tesla and Paypal founder said that the solar-powered system would be a faster, safer, less costly and more efficient mode of transport between Los Angeles and San Francisco than the high-speed train currently under development.

The report said that the one-way ticket has been estimated by Musk at 20 dollars for a passenger while the system linking the two cities, which are 610km apart, would cost 6billion dollars.

The entrepreneur who himself is still exploring the concept of 'maglev' transportation system said that a demonstration model will take up to four years to complete.

Recently, the city of Tel Aviv, with the help of US consultant companies, has also aimed at introducing the levitating 'sky trains' to tackle the problem of heavy traffic and environmental pollution. (ANI)
