UK departmental store's Santas `told to keeps palms on show`

London, Dec. 19 (ANI): Officials at UK's biggest departmental store Harrods have reportedly told their Santas that they must keep their palms on show at all times during a child's visit in the wake of the Jimmy Saville scandal.

Hundreds of allegations of child sex abuse and rape became public after the TV presenter's death, leading the police to believe that he may have been one of Britain's most prolific sex offenders.

Harrods, in Knightsbridge, central London, has also installed CCTV in its grotto and ensured that there is an elf there at all times.

According to the Daily Mail, the kids can only sit on Santa's lap with the permission of their parents, the Telegraph reported.

"It is political correctness gone mad," a source said.

"But following all the press coverage of Jimmy Savile, bosses felt they could take no chances and decided to take out strict preventative measures.

"Not surprisingly, poor Father Christmas feels incredibly restricted in what he can and cannot say; he wouldn't have these problems in Lapland," the source added. (ANI)
