Two Afghan soldiers die in Taliban attack

Kabul, Aug 26 (IANS) Two army soldiers and five militants were killed Monday when Taliban guerrillas raided an army base in Afghanistan's Kapisa province, an official said.

"The Taliban militants numbered around 15 tried to enter the army base in Orsak area of Tagab district at around 6.30 a.m. They attempted to take control of the compound but failed to enter the first gate as the soldiers responded to the attack, killing five militants," Xinhua quoted the provincial government spokesman Fiaz Qadiri as saying.

He said two Afghan army soldiers were killed in the incident and added 10 militants were also injured in the gunfight.

The injured militants were captured by the soldiers.

The militants also detonated a car bomb near the gate.
