The BCCI on Wednesday doubled the Annual Retainership fee of India's 32 centrally-contracted cricketers with current skipper Virat Kohli and former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the Rs 2 crore Grade A bracket along with five others.
The COA announced that Grade A players would now be getting Rs 2 crore as compared to the earlier Rs 1 crore, while Grade B and C players will get Rs 1 crore and Rs 50 lakh respectively.
While seniors like Yuvraj Singh and Ashish Nehra have found place in Grade B and C respectively, the biggest name missing is Suresh Raina, who till recently was a permanent member of the limited overs fixtures.
Raina has not managed to remain a regular fixture in the Indian team, but his exclusion from the list has raised eyebrows.
Here’s how Twiiter reacted to the exclusion of the Gujarat Lions Captain from the BCCI’s money list.
No annual @BCCI contract for Suresh Raina? That's strange.— Saurabh Malhotra (@MalhotraSaurabh) March 22, 2017
The humble servant of Indian team Suresh Raina out of BCCI annual Contract...— Broken Cricket (@BrokenCricket) March 22, 2017
Not so long before Suresh Raina had a 'A' contract. Now none. https://t.co/eWHL5PxVTZ— Sampath Bandarupalli (@SampathStats) March 22, 2017
Suresh Raina could have easily opt to play up in the order and performed well to secure his place but played for team and lost the contract!— Sarcastic Dude (@Sarcasticdudee) March 22, 2017
No central contract for Suresh Raina. Shocker. Surprising since he played for India in the recent T20s. #bcci— Sandeep Narayan (@Sandeepnyn) March 22, 2017
Raina has been a prolific run scorer for the Indian team over the years and had recently made a comeback in the T20 series against England where he scored crucial runs in the 3-match series to help the Indian team.
