Tripura celebrates Swami Vivekananda's 150th birth anniversary

Agartala, Jan 18 (ANI): Tripura joined the nation in celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of visionary leader Swami Vivekananda.

Swami Vivekananda played an important role in introducing Vedanta and Yoga to the western world. And even after 150 years, his teachings are well followed. At Vivek Uddan in Agartala, hundreds of children joined the celebrations with special prayers and cultural performances.

In Nazrul Kalasethra, a photo exhibition was held to mark the occasion.

A musical tribute was paid to Swami Viveknanda as artists sang the songs composed by him. To spread awareness about his teachings, two books on his life were also released by the Tripura government.

" The programme organized here is fantastic because Swamiji is our idol and this programme provides complete information about him. He said that if you want to change the society, and develop, then the younger generation will have to come forward. As a youth I want to follow the path of Swamiji and his teachings," said Birjit Paul, Vivekanda's admirer.

"The programme, which is being organized here today, can have great influence on the younger generation, the songs being sung here are morale boosters and are very inspiring," added Raman Saha, another admirer.

Vivekananda was born on January 12, 1863, and this day is celebrated across India as National Youth Day, with an aim to show the right direction to the youth of the country. (ANI)
