Darbhanga, Jan 22 (ANI): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a top Indian Mujahideen operative and close associate of the outfit's founder Yasin Bhatkal from Darbhanga in Bihar.
The NIA team, which had come from New Delhi, arrested Mohammad Danish Ansari from his house at Chakjora village last night in the state's Darbhanga district along with the help of the local police.
Security agencies had been on the trail of Danish Ansari as they claim that he used to provide shelter to Bhatkal.
Danish Ansari was also wanted by the Delhi Police in a terror-related case.
While talking to mediapersons, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of the NIA, Sarauddin Ansari, gave out the details of the arrest.
"We have arrested a militant belonging to the Indian Mujahideen (IM) named Danish. There are several cases against him for which we have arrested him and the rest of the information would be given out in New Delhi. He has been arrested from his residence at Chakjora in Darbhanga. So far we have made only one arrest in this regard," he said.
A non-bailable warrant was issued against the militant by the NIA special court last year over the charges of providing shelter to Bhatkal, who is involved in various blasts and is now allegedly hiding in Pakistan.
The IM has been accused of causing the serial blasts that rocked Pune in August last year. (ANI)
