To go 2-1 up will be huge: Morgan

Morgan said the atmosphere during the matches in subcontinent conditions hasn’t been a problem.

Ranchi: Eoin Morgan feels the team that wins the third game of the five-match series on Saturday will have a huge advantage going forward.

“I am massive believer that the first game of the series can be the most important because it sets the tone for the rest of the matches... The first blow is a bit like a boxing match. Every game is as big as the other. To go 2-1 up would be huge,” the England batsman said.

Morgan said the atmosphere during the matches in subcontinent conditions hasn’t been a problem. “I think the only way it can affect you is when you are not actually doing something. Once you are out there and once you get into the flow, other things become easier. The atmosphere is amazing and as good as anywhere in the world. We, as a team, have embraced the atmosphere."

“It is certainly different to what we are used to playing back in England. Playing over here, you get used to the surroundings that revolve around cricket. Cricket in this country is huge, it is incredibly big... Everything that surrounds it is fanatical. I am quite used to it.”

He felt England have done reasonably well ahead of the Champions Trophy back home in June. “I think we have made good progress and our records suggest that. The only blip we have had since Alastair (Cook) took over was the last trip we had here. And we learnt a lot of lessons from that. When we were here last, we went away from our principles of taking the emotion out of that game and concentrating on what we do best."

“Concentrating on us as a team and our strengths and not getting distracted by other things... With that over the last year-and-a-half, the togetherness has been brilliant and with that a lot of success has come. Huge performances from the skipper and Ian Bell… contributions right across the team...”

Morgan, who played for the IPL-V champions Kolkata Knight Riders, wants to be involved this time too.

“Yeah I would like to be involved because I have learnt a lot from the IPL… I’m also looking forward to the summer… The Ashes series and its what everyone dreams of.”
