This year's best dressed - Sonam Kapoor

Year 2012 saw the rise and fall of many a star in the best and worst dressed list. While regulars like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra exited the best dressed list, giving way to a fresh new fashion brigade, some worst dressed remain on this year's list, because they can't just seem to get their style right. Team Yahoo! Lifestyle brings you a look at who made it to the top of the style charts.

She was the one who teamed up a simple pink sari ensemble with a designer shrug, and caused a sensation in the international fashion world. No matter what the critics say, Sonam Kapoor is India's fashion couture icon and brand ambassador. Her film 'Aisha' may have bombed, but her style statement in the movie has given her cult status in the fashion industry.

Just like her peer Sonakshi Sinha, Sonam, too, belonged to the 90-kilo club, before she decided to turn her life around and join the film industry. Unlike Sonakshi, whose film career is flourishing, Sonam has not tasted success in the acting sphere, but instead found another way to be seen and heard.

Currently, she is invited to some of the most prestigious fashion shows in the world and rubs shoulders with the who's who of the fashion world, including Jean Paul Gaultier and Elie Saab.

Back home, she is the brand ambassador for the India International Jewellery Week 2012 (IIJW) for the second year in a row.

She has once famously said, "I refuse to wear a bikini. I have a saggy bum, I have cellulite." And yet, she is a fashion star. Kudos to her.
