Sachin Tendulkar fell short of a fairytale ton in his farewell Test on November 15, 2013 but his 74-run knock was embellished by a full repertoire of classy shots the 'Little Master' was renowned for during a sparkling 24-year career.

The packed Wankhede Stadium was jolted from euphoria to deathly silence within a second as West Indies captain Darren Sammy pouched a sharp slip catch off part-time spinner Narsingh Deonarine to bring an end to Tendulkar's first innings knock.

A sense of disappointment and disbelief hung in the air before the crowd came to terms with the magnitude of the moment to give their favourite sporting icon a prolonged standing ovation as he returned to the pavilion at his home stadium.

13.4 S Shillingford to Vijay (83.5 KMPH): OUT! Shillingford strikes once again. You know what, or rather who's coming next and the crowd is at the edge of their seats. A flighted ball on middle, Vijay aims to defend but gets an inside edge onto their pads. Lobs to Sammy at leg gully and the appeal is considered. They check upstairs for the no-ball but it's fine.

Out comes the Little Master, Sachin Tendulkar to the crease with a tremendous applause. He looks up skywards and continues to march up to the crease. The little man gets a guard of honour from the opposition as well as the on-field umpires. Tremendous, absolutely tremendous scenes out here.

DAY 1 STUMPS: India will go at Stumps on Day 1 holding the advantage. After winning the toss on a green track, against the crowd's wishes, Dhoni chose to bowl first but the bowlers did not disappoint. West Indies once again had a horror show with the bat and the spin duo of Ashwin and Ojha made the most of it. Dhawan and Vijay got off to a confident start but fell in quick succession.

Much to the delight of the crowd, Sachin Tendulkar then walked out and along with Cheteshwar Pujara, calmed down all sorts of nerves to keep India's nose ahead. Tomorrow promises to be a very exciting day and there's a chance that it might be Sachin Tendulkar's last innings. 15th November, 1989 was when it all began. 15th November, 2013, when Sachin Tendulkar might play his last Test innings.

40.6 T Best to Tendulkar (140.3 KMPH): 0. Best bangs it in short around off, and once again Tendulkar fails to connect with his trademark upper cut. The Master flashes a smile and this time Best also has a smile on his face.

41.2 S Shillingford to Tendulkar (88.1 KMPH): 0. Loopy off-spinner outside off, curling back in a bit, Tendulkar tries to sweep it across the line but misses. A stifled appeal from the bowler but the impact was well outside off.
