Tendulkar, Zaheer return for Australia ODIs

Chairman of the national selection committee, Krishnamachari Srikkanth said a 17-man squad had been picked since the tri-series competition is a long one.

Tendulkar hasn't played an ODI since the World Cup final in April. Sachin Tendulkar and Zaheer Khan were the notable returnees to India’s 17-man T20 and ODI squad for the tri-series in Australia.

The two have not featured in the blue jersey since India’s World Cup win in Mumbai in April.

Starting February 5, Australia, India and Sri Lanka will play eight ODIs each before the best-of-three final ending on March 8. Prior to that, India and Australia will compete in two T20 Internationals.

Ajinkya Rahane, who had a string of small scores in domestic and ODIs at home, has been left out. Rahane had impressed in England and had been part of India’s Test squad in Australia.

Ishant Sharma will take a break to seek treatment for his injured left ankle.

Praveen Kumar, who had missed the cut for the Australia Tests, returns to the squad.

Manoj Tiwary, with a hundred in the Chennai ODI against West Indies, and Irfan Pathan who made his India comeback in the same game, have been retained.
