Teens kill 16-yr-old for refusing to pay for their cigarettes

A 16-year-old boy has been beaten to death by three teenagers in the Pandav Nagar area of east Delhi.

NEW DELHI: A 16-year-old boy has been beaten to death by three teenagers in the Pandav Nagar area of east Delhi.

The victim, Sandeep, was a student of class XII. The incident occurred on Saturday night near the victim’s house.

“One of the three boys is a bully. He used to extort money from younger boys in the area to buy cigarettes and alcohol. He had demanded money from Sandeep a number of times and used to thrash him when he refused to pay. On the day of the incident, Sandeep had complained to the boy’s mother. He was infuriated and wanted to teach Sandeep a lesson,” a police officer said on Sunday.

When the boy found Sandeep alone outside his house on Saturday night, he and two of his friends beat Sandeep up, the officer added.

Sandeep was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. According to doctors, he died of internal injuries.

The three attackers have been taken into custody. Two of them are class XII students while the other is in class X. They all live in the same colony, the police said.

The Capital seems to be on a short fuse these days as 70 per cent of the murders occurring in Delhi are over minor issues.

Talking on the issue of murders for minor motives, VIMHANS psychologist Pulkit Sharma said, “Today’s generation is very restless. They want to achieve everything at once. If they feel that someone is trying to stop them, they want to get rid of the person, which is a highly negative approach.”
