Taylor, Williamson boost New Zealand

Colombo: New Zealand were 223-2 in their first innings at stumps after electing to bat on the opening day of the second and final Test against Sri Lanka at the P. Sara Oval in Colombo on Sunday.

Skipper Ross Taylor was unbeaten on 119 with Kane Williamson 95 not out. The pair have so far added 209 for the unfinished third-wicket stand.

Fast bowlers Nuwan Kulasekara and Shaminda Eranga each took one wicket for Sri Lanka, who lead 1-0 in the series following their 10-wicket victory in the first Test in Galle.
