Taliban chief asks outfit to abide by peace pact

Islamabad, Jan 13 (IANS) Pakistani Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud has directed his men in the northwest tribal region to abide by a peace accord with the government, a media report said Sunday.

The pact was struck with the authorities by North Waziristan Taliban chief Hafiz Gul Bahadur, Geo News reported.

Addressing the Taliban men as "mujahideen brothers", Mehsud said the Pakistani and Afghan Taliban "under the leadership of Mullah Muhammad Omar Mujahid are engaged in jehad against the crusaders and infidels".

The Taliban "are supporters of each other in the ongoing holy war, the enemies do not want to see us united and disciplined against them and are being trying to divide us," Mehsud said in a letter.

He said it was binding on the local unit of Taliban to abide by the accord and decisions reached with the government.
