London, Oct 26(ANI): England off spinner Graeme Swann has said Kevin Pietersen, who was reinstated in the squad for the India tour, must be ready to laugh at jokes directed at him in the dressing room.
Swann expressed his belief that the affair, which saw the batsman axed and then reinstated, must not be allowed to claim another victim and render the England dressing room a joke-free zone.
Swann stated his belief that it would be good for everyone if the side, under new captain Alastair Cook, could return to the free-flowing banter of the Andrew Strauss era.
While the spinner is not talking about setting up a fake Twitter account, if that means Pietersen being able to laugh at himself along with the others, it will be good for the collective.
"I don't think that there will be an absence of it in Cooky's dressing room at all, as the captain has an ability to laugh at himself," the Daily Express quoted Swann, as saying.
"In any case if I can't take the p*** out of Cookie, Jimmy and Bres, then I'm finished as a player. But I have been in dressing rooms before where you are not allowed to take the mickey and they don't work for me," he added.
"I have always done it and I don't see that changing in India or beyond," he said.
Swann's relationship with Pietersen may never be tight, but he insisted that talks in Oxford early last week cleared the air.
"We could not have moved on without them, and we could not have gone to India with it being the elephant in the room," Swann said.
"Everyone now seems in a better place. So, we can hopefully move on and try to win games," he added. (ANI)
