The Rising Pune Supergiants, or should we write Rising Pune Supergiant, is trying to get everything right ahead of their second season of the Indian Premier League.
Since they finished second last in the previous season, the team management has made two significant changes – first they removed MS Dhoni and appointed Steve Smith as their captain and then removed the last ‘S’ from their name.
According to Circle of Cricket, the team changed their name because they wanted to look as one team and not as a group of players, hence the name turned singular from plural.
A SourceBefore every season, we have a meeting with the creative team, and there it was decided that it is better to project the whole team rather than focusing on a few players. That is the reason behind changing the name.
The Pune team failed to get going in the previous season mainly because of the injuries incurred by star players such as Kevin Pietersen, Steve Smith and Faf du Plessis.
This time, the team has a well-balanced side with Steve Smith, MS Dhoni and Faf du Plessis comprising the batting and Ravichandran Ashwin and Australia’s Adam Zampa leading the bowling attack.
We will have to wait and see if the new name brings RPS luck in this season.
