Starc hits out at England for 'negative, go-slow' tactics in Ashes finale

Sydney, Aug 25 (ANI): Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc has slammed England for the negative way it has played in the last and the final Ashes Test at The Oval, saying that England was not playing as a quality side despite being 3-0 up in the series.

According to, even as rain delayed the start of the fourth day, England is intent on a draw, scoring just 215 runs on the third day in 98.3 overs, going to stumps at 4-247 in reply to Australia's 9-492 declared.

Stating that it is surprising that England is using 'go-slow' tactics in the Test despite being 3-0 on top and claiming to be a quality side, Starc said that if it had been a quality side, England would have tried to win the series 4-0, adding that their lack of intent was disappointing.

Although Starc said his side was frustrated at England's negative tactics, especially when they are on top at this Test and making all the necessary running as the only team with intent, he added that England has shown the same tactics at the Old Trafford Test.

However, Starc said that his side is not going to worry about England as they are having a good time in the Test and hoped to do even better by winning, despite England captain Alastair Cook claiming before the Ashes started that his side wanted to achieve history by becoming the first England team to beat Australia 4-0 in England.
