In 2010, M.S. Dhoni was seen raising his bat to fans in a special postal cover on the Baton Relay of the XIX Commonwealth Games. The Rs 10 cover was a huge hit with philatelists once it was put up for sale at the GPO in Ranchi. It still occupies shelves at the Philately Bureau.
Cut to 2103. It is time to commemorate another historic moment in Jharkhand. The postal department will release a special cover on the debut ODI at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Friday, the eve of the India-England match.
Assistant postmaster-general M.N. Singh said JSCA officials had asked them to design the cover on the world-class stadium a few days ago. "It is ready now and has been approved. The cover will be released during the stadium's inauguration tomorrow."
Singh said that though the exact time of releasing the cover was yet to be ascertained, it would happen sometime in the evening. "It will be a historic moment." The price of the cover is yet to be fixed. "It will be upto the association (JSCA) to distribute it among dignitaries," he added.
Postal department officials said the 2010 special cover on Dhoni was also finding many takers for the past week.
"Philatelists are crowding the bureau because the ODI fever has gripped the city. Those who missed the chance of buying one earlier are now making a queue," one of them added.
Postal assistant at the Philately Bureau Tara Kiran Minz said they were looking forward to the new special cover on the ODI stadium.
"But, I am surprised that philatelists are still demanding the special cover featuring Dhoni. Two days ago, a few schoolchildren bought 30 of them. This morning, we sold a few more to youngsters. We expect sales to go up further," he added.
