South Korea to offer aid to North Korea

Seoul, Sep 2 (IANS) South Korea plans to offer humanitarian aid worth $6.3 million to North Korea, the unification ministry in Seoul said Monday.

The $6.3 million aid will be sent to the World Health Organisation's $12.6 million project to support North Korea's children, Xinhua cited the ministry as saying.

The funds will come from the inter-Korean cooperation fund, South Korea's state funds to boost cooperation between Seoul and Pyongyang.

The ministry also allowed civic groups to send nutritional food, drugs and medical supplies to North Korea.

The ministry permitted the delivery of food and drugs for children in July.

A total of 12 South Korean civic organisations have also been allowed to send supplies worth $2.13 million, the ministry added.
