Sydney, Mar 7 (ANI): South Australian coach Darren Berry has slammed selectors for axing country's number one spinner Nathan Lyon from the Hyderabad Test following below par showing against the Indians in Chennai.
Berry was stumped by the decision to pick left-arm tweaker Xavier Doherty and all rounder Glenn Maxwell ahead of No.1 spinner Lyon in a Hyderabad Test Australia lost by an innings and 135 runs, News.com.au reports.
Berry said they played two spin bowlers in the last Test match and in my opinion the best spin bowler didn't play in the game, adding he found that difficult to fathom.
Berry hoped national selectors held their nerve and recognized an out of the box Mahendra Singh Dhoni double ton that claimed Lyon as the major casualty in Chennai.
He added they were building Lyon up for India and after one Test where he got some big wickets, albeit he went for some tap, adding he was quite shocked and disappointed that the off spinner wasn't persevered with.(ANI)
