Soaring tablet sales sounding death knell for PCs

London, July 12 (ANI): Global computer experts have pointed out towards a probability of tablets such as iPad, Samsung Galaxy, Google Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire overtaking computers by 2015, as an increasing number of consumers ditch PCs in favour of hand-held devices.

According to the Mirror, demand for computers tumbled by almost 11 percent in the last three months, affecting sales of big companies such as Dell, Acer and HP.

The report said that the worst decline had been witnessed in Europe, Asia and the Middle East where sales had gone down by 16.8 percent as the popularity of tablets increased further.

Global demand for tablets is expected to rise quickly by 45 percent from this year and get to 332.4 million in 2015 compared to an estimated 322.7 million for PCs, the report added.

Gartner's principal analyst, Mikako Kitagawa said that in emerging markets, inexpensive tablets had become the first computing device for many people who were deferring the purchase of a PC, adding that a lot needed to be done in launching attractive products and addressing competition from devices like tablets.
