Shrink soothes 'depleted' Oz squad's nerves ahead of Mohali Test

Sydney, Mar 14 (ANI): Leading Australian Test players have been offered professional counseling to help the depleted squad to prepare for the Mohali Test starting today.

This comes after captain Michael Clarke had assured vice-captain Shane Watson of a future in the Test squad, despite Watson lashing out at the selectors and Clarke for his suspension, reports.

According to reports, sports psychologist Michael Lloyd flew to India to work with players following Australia's 10th worst defeat in their 136-year history in the second Test, and his arrival preceded the sacking of Watson, Mitchell Johnson, James Pattinson and Usman Khawaja.

According to a Cricket Australia (CA) spokesman, the board had already decided before the tour to India to have Lloyd to work with the players before the second and the third Tests, adding that the psychologist was scheduled to arrive before Australia's tour turned sour.

The spokesman further said that Lloyd had worked in a number of CA programmes and with quite a few domestic teams, adding that the psychologist is also familiar with a number of players.

Lloyd works across several CA-affiliated teams and was scheduled to arrive before Australia's tour turned sour.

According to captain Michael Clarke, the squad must focus on a definite win in the Mohali Test to avoid a 4-0 series rout and for that it is necessary to seek any help they can from any side so that they can put behind the ructions of the past few days to have any hope of retaining the Border-Gavaskar trophy.

Lloyd's presence now comes at an opportune time as Australia's players come to terms with the axing of four teammates and how they recover in time to retain the Border-Gavaskar trophy, the report added. (ANI)
