Mumbai top-order batsman Shreyas Iyer has been called up for the fourth Test against Australia as a possible replacement for skipper Virat Kohli, who is still suspected to be nursing a shoulder injury.
Kohli had sustained the injury while diving for the ball during the third Test at Ranchi.
During Thursday’s practice session in Dharamsala, Kohli was spotted with a bandaged shoulder. While the Indian captain did not bat, he warmed up with the rest of the team and also attempted some under-arm throws while fielding.
Kohli had sustained the shoulder injury while fielding on the bound at Ranchi. Although he had sat out for the rest of the day’s play, he returned to not only field but also came out to bat in India’s first innings.
The 22-year-old Shreyas Iyer has had a good domestic season and had even slammed an unbeaten double ton for India ‘A’ against the visiting Australians in a practice game ahead of this series.
The Dharamsala Test begins on Saturday with the series locked 1-1.
