New Delhi, July 15 (ANI): National Disaster Management Authority Vice Chairman Shashidhar Reddy disclosed here today that the people who have lost their lives and those who are reported missing and presumed dead, will get a compensation of 1.5 lakh from the State Government, 1.5 lakh from the National Disaster Response Fund and 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's national relief fund.
Shashidhar Reddy said that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is assisting the local administration. "About seven teams of NDRF continue to be in different places in Uttarakhand and on the whole, about 31 teams of NDRF are in different places of the country because of the flood vulnerability in different places", he disclosed while addressing the media here today.
Reddy also revealed the latest figures in the Uttarakhand floods and said that the Chief Minister is reviewing the progress of the relief operations on a daily basis with senior officials, Army, Air force and NDRF.
"As on 13 July, number of people dead are 580. Figures of people missing were given as 5772 including 924 local persons. The number of livestock lost is about 9519, number of houses damaged is 4207, 649 cattle sheds damaged. As of July 2, the total number of persons evacuated was 1,08,653," he said.
He further added that the dead bodies have not been fully cremated because of lack of connectivity to places like Rambada and Kedarnath.
"The DGP of Uttarakhand has been made responsible for the disposal of the dead, for their identification, the panchnama and the cremation and any body that is being cremated, the DNA sample is being taken by the medical team deployed for this purpose," he said.
Heavy rains started on June 14 causing flash floods and landslides in Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi and Chamoli districts, enroute to Himalayan shrines Badrinath, Kedarnath and Yamunotri in the state of Uttarakhand. (ANI)
