Serena says `windstorm` conditions made her fight for US Open title

Washington, Sept 10 (ANI): US Open women's singles champion Serena Williams has revealed that she just tried to hang in there throughout a difficult and lengthy two-hour-and-forty-five-minute final against Belarus' Victoria Azarenka.

According to CBS News, Serena called the conditions on one side of the court, a windstorm, adding that it was killing her as her dress was going everywhere and she could not get control on shots, missing them in the process.

The American admitted that Azarenka was handling the windy conditions better than her, the report said.

However, in the end, Williams fought through and defeated Azarenka 7-5, 6-7, 6-1, the report added.

Serena now has 17 Grand Slam singles titles, seven behind the all-time record of Margaret Court's 24, and five behind Steffi Graf's Open-era mark of 22. (ANI)
