Mumbai, Feb 20 (IANS) A benchmark index for Indian equities markets ended Wednesday's trade flat, even as oil and gas and information technology (IT) stocks rallied.
The 30-scrip Sensex, which opened at 19,717.94 points, ended at 19,642.75 points, up 7.03 points or 0.04 percent from its previous close at 19,635.72 points.
The Sensex touched an intra-day high of 19,742.42 points and a low of 19,619.89 points. The midcap index was up 10.30 points, while the smallcap index was higher by 38.73 points.
The wider 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) ended the trade lower by 3.35 points or 0.06 percent at 5,943.05 points.
There was healthy buying in oil and gas, IT and realty scrips.
However, consumer durables, metal and bank stocks plummeted. The oil and gas index was up 153.16 points, followed by the IT index, up 39.20 points, and the realty index, up 16.31 points.
The consumer durable index however declined by 99.15 points. So did metal index, down 60.55 points, and bank index, down 54.41 points.
