Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir have been one of the best opening pairs Indian cricket has seen. But the camaraderie on the field doesn’t seem to translate beyond that.
This comes in context of cricketer Ishant Sharma joining Kings XI Punjab in the 10th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Sharma, apparently, got picked by the team on Sehwag’s advice.
Sehwag, who is also the Director of Operations for Kings XI Punjab, announced this decision at a media interaction on 5 April on the occasion of Punjab’s jersey launch. During the launch, he was reminded by a journalist about Gautam’s remark on Ishant, according to reports by MensXP.
Earlier, Gautam Gambhir had expressed surprise at Ishant’s decision to place himself in the Rs 2 crore base price club for the 2017 Indian Premier League auction.
He even said that the amount wasn’t suitable for Ishant Sharma, who would typically be expected to bowl only four overs in a twenty over match.
Sehwag retaliated by saying, “ Tell me one thing, who pays your Rs 12 crore for playing 60 balls then?”
This, however, is not the first time the two cricketers have had opposing views on an issue. The Gurmehar Kaur campaign against war also brought the two cricketers face to face. While Gautam Gambhir supported the 20-year-old, Sehwag remained at the opposite spectrum.
