Schoolgirl 'raped' and killed in guesthouse

Jan. 25: A Class XII student was allegedly raped and murdered by a 32-year-old driver with whom she had checked into a guesthouse last evening in Faridabad, a Haryana town about 50km from Delhi.

The accused Sonu, a married man employed as a driver by a local private company, had been stalking the victim for the past few months, a friend of hers has apparently told police.

It's not clear why she went to the guesthouse with him. Although police used the word "abducted" without elaborating, the guesthouse owner said the girl had "accompanied" Sonu and that he didn't suspect anything.

An officer said the victim was found dead inside the room Sonu had rented, her throat slit and her abdomen carrying multiple stab wounds. She had been missing since she left home to attend her private tuition classes yesterday afternoon.

"She was abducted by Sonu who took her to the guesthouse in the evening and allegedly raped her before slitting her throat. We have arrested him. He has confessed to having slit her throat with a kitchen knife," a senior officer said.

"The guesthouse owner told us that Sonu and the victim had checked in around 6pm. Asked for identity proof, Sonu told the owner he would provide it sometime later. Without suspecting anything, the owner provided him a room and Sonu later asked for tea to be sent to the room."

Around midnight, the guesthouse owner allegedly saw Sonu leaving in a rush. His suspicions aroused, he entered the room and found the girl lying blood-soaked, and informed the police.

The girl's family, which had lodged a missing persons complaint, identified the body. "One of her friends told us that Sonu was known to the girl and used to stalk her," a police source said.

Some 200 people protested the murder by gheraoing the local police station, blocking a road, ransacking Sonu's home and torching a motorbike.

"We have sent the body for post-mortem. The report will confirm whether she was sexually assaulted before being killed. We are interrogating Sonu to ascertain the motive behind the killing," the officer said.

Maid gang-raped

A 24-year-old household help was gang-raped last night by four men near her home in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, police said.

The victim, who lives with her siblings, had stepped out around 11pm in search of her brother who had not returned from work, the police said. One of the accused allegedly grabbed her and dragged her to an isolated spot where the other three accused joined him.

The victim's cries later attracted a crowd, which beat up the accused. One of the men has been admitted to hospital and the other three have been arrested, the police said.
