Samuels claims to be better player than Windies teammate Gayle on current form

Sydney, Dec 14(ANI): Marlon Samuels has said he would look to steal West Indies teammate Chris Gayle's limelight when he makes his debut for the Melbourne Renegades against the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League on Friday.

Samuels was the star for the Windies during their recent tour of Bangladesh, and capped a memorable tour with an unbeaten 85 off 43 balls in Tuesday's 18-run T20 win, but explosive Gayle failed to perform during the series.

"Chris and I have been best friends for ages, since we were teenagers. He's in the Big Bash, now I'm joining him and playing against him," quoted Samuels, as saying.

Asked who was in better form, Samuels said: "If you look at the last series, I don't have to answer that. But knowing Chris, he's got a strong mind. Whether he had a bad tournament in Bangladesh, I don't think that bad form will continue."

"In T20, on his day, Chris is an explosive batsman. But if Chris doesn't make runs, someone else will have to step up to the plate. You have to come out with the mindset of 'Yes, Chris is a dangerous cricketer but we're coming out against 11 players'," he added.

"The only thing I could tell (our bowlers) is that Chris isn't in good nick. But he can come back with one innings, and you need to get it right to Chris," he said. (ANI)
