Ranchi (Jharkhand), Jan.27 (ANI): After being affected by decades of Maoist violence, Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh has approved the construction of bridges by the Railway Ministry's construction wing, IRCON in Jharkhand.
He stated this in Ranchi over the weekend.
Ramesh said that the state government had approached the ministry several times with this appeal to speed up infrastructure projects.
"The Jharkhand government had made a special demand stating that this state is unable to build bridges. So we have given the nod to IRCON (Indian Railways Construction Company Limited) to help build bridges following signing of an understanding between the state and central governments. The responsibility of building bridges across the state would be handed over to IRCON," said Ramesh.
He criticised Maoists for their barbarism in Latehar District.
"What happened in Latehar, shows that the rebels neither believe in democratic set up nor humanity. Till the time we talk about democracy it is okay to have different view points but the fact they don't believe in humanity and this being the case, we can't hold talks with them," added Ramesh.
Maoists in Jharkhand are relying on latest techniques to get their message of violence and control across to Indian security agencies. (ANI)
