Jharkhand Badminton Association secretary K. Prabhakar Rao was on Thursday appointed as the observer for the upcoming ONGC All India Senior Major Ranking Tournament. The event would be held in Bangalore from January 28 to February 2.
The prestigious tournament, which will be held at the Prakash Padukone Academy, is likely to witness participation from a number of prominent shuttlers, most of who have donned India's jersey at the international level.
Terming his appointment as an honour, Rao on Friday thanked the Badminton Association of India (BAI) for the "proud" opportunity and promised to give his best.
"It an honour to have been named as the observer for the tournament and it is a proud moment for Jharkhand Badminton Association," Rao said.
As an observer, Rao's job at the meet would be to see the conduct of the tournament as well as keep a watch on the performance of participating shuttlers. He would be keeping a track of names of all the players who perform well in the tournament.
Jamshedpur-based Rao, a joint secretary of BAI and a veteran badminton administrator, had earlier functioned in various capacities for the Indian team. He was manager of the manager of the national outfit for the Singapore Open in 2009 and also during the SAF Games in Bangladesh.
Rao was also the technical official during the 2010 Commonwealth Games held in Delhi.
