Rajnath Singh blames Government for country's 'deteriorating economic condition'

New Delhi, Sep. 2 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Rajnath Singh on Monday said that the decisions taken by the Congress-led UPA Government has led to the deterioration of the economic condition of the country to an extent that the crisis could be termed as the worst since independence.

"I do believe that in the history of independent India, the economic condition of the country has not been worse than under the Congress-led UPA Government. Now, the pitiable state of selling gold has arrived; the selling of gold in temples is being talked about now. ...There is nothing more unfortunate for this country," Singh said.

"While the government should be eradicating poverty and unemployment, this government has failed to check these factors, including inflation. They have brought on poverty and unemployment. The crisis is going to increase," he added.

Meanwhile, on August 31, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley said he was of the view that Prime Manmohan Singh has run out of ideas as far as getting the Indian economy back on track.

Jaitley said: "Instead of telling us about the roadmap to improve the economy, he was angry and pessimistic. This attitude means you have no ideas on how to revive the economy. You have run out of ideas."

The Centre has been severely criticized for the deteriorating economic climate of the country, as the value of the rupee has been slipping against the U.S. dollar.

The rupee slipped 0.5 percent to end at 66 against the U.S. dollar on Monday. (ANI)
