Rahane and Dravid sealed the deal with a big opening for Rajasthan.

Rajasthan Royals sprung to second place with a crushing win over the Delhi Daredevils. Captain Rahul Dravid and Ajinkya Rahane’s steady opening partnership along with Shane Watson’s big-hitting at the end rounded off a tidy chase for 155 runs.

Delhi, currently placed eighth and out of the title race, got off to another poor start Virender Sehwag, David Warner and CM Gautam making just 26 runs between them.

It was Aussie recruit Ben Rohrer’s attacking 64 that pulled them out of their mess, giving them a defendable score. His partnership of 76 with Kedar Jadhav practically doubled Delhi’s score at the 12-over mark.

The talking point of the game was the introduction of Pravin Tambe, a 41-year-old leg-spinner from Mumbai with no First Class experience.

Tambe operated in the late overs for Rajasthan and was able to hold his own against Rohrer and Jadhav. Tambe had recently represented the DY Patil Sports Academy team against a visiting young England team.

The target of 155 didn’t pose any challenge to Rajasthan. Dravid and Rahane added 108 runs. Dravid’s fifty was his second consecutive one and fourth overall this season.

The 40-year-old recently retired India stalwart is pushing his younger colleagues hard and is currently No. 7 on the runs tally this season in the IPL.
